MOGADISHU (SD) – Somali police have killed al-Shabaab operative who allegedly hurled hand grenade at a checkpoint on Saturday night in Mogadishu.
Sources say the man attacked the security checkpoint in Bakaro vicinity of Hawlwadag district with grenade, injuring four people including a soldier.
The assailant was reportedly shot dead by a police before he managed to flee the scene.
No group has claimed the responsibility for the attack but it has the hallmarks of al-shabaab attacks
The blast comes hours after al-Shabaab stormed a construction site with suicide bomb, killing four people including two Turkish nationals.
Fourteen other were also injured in the blast.
The heinous attack was condemned by UN, Turkey and Somali government.
In 2019, al-Shabaab suicide bomber had targeted workers at road construction site funded by Qatar in Mogadishu’s ex-control vicinity.
