Al Shabab ambushes security forces in Garissa

GARISSA (SD)-The Al-Shabaab group reportedly carried out an attack last night near the town of Garissa in Kenya’s North Eastern region.

The attack occurred in an area known as Naani and targeted a senior officer in the Kenyan police force, who was killed at the scene.

The officer was identified as Deeqow Isaaq Aadan, and he was working with Kenyan security forces in the North Eastern region, particularly in areas close to the Somalia border.

Reports indicate that the officer was killed while conducting a security operation. Al-Shabaab militants launched a surprise attack, killing him and then fleeing the scene.

In response, Kenyan forces have been conducting operations in the Garissa area this morning, searching for the Al-Shabaab members responsible for the attack.

Recently, security in this region has deteriorated, with Al-Shabaab increasingly carrying out attacks targeting security installations and public transport, and occasionally engaging in abductions near the Somalia border.
