DJIBOUTI (SD)-The Djiboutian government has expressed skepticism about Turkey’s ability to mediate the maritime dispute between Ethiopia and Somalia, which arose from the MoU on maritime signed by Ethiopia and Somaliland.
Djibouti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, downplayed the possibility that Turkey’s mediation could resolve the conflict between Somalia and Ethiopia. He suggested that the only solution at this point is for one of the two countries to compromise on its stance. The Minister also mentioned that the Djiboutian government possesses a secret solution that could resolve the dispute between the two nations.
Djibouti, which leads the regional organization IGAD, previously failed in its attempts to bring the two countries together at the beginning of the conflict. It remains unclear whether the parties involved will accept Djibouti’s proposed secret solution.
This statement from Djibouti comes after yesterday’s inconclusive talks between Ethiopia and Somalia, which took place in Turkey as part of Turkey’s mediation efforts.
