Al Shabab claims Somali government forces joined their ranks

Beledweyne (SD) – Al-Shabaab has unveiled soldiers and officers from the Somali Federal Government and Hirshabelle forces who have surrendered to the group recently.

A group of soldiers and officers were displayed by Al-Shabaab in the village of Buq-Aqable in Hiran region.

The men, numbering nine, were operating in Beledweyne and Jalalaqsi, according to al-Shabaab.

Al-Shabaab media outlets listed the names of the men; Ibrahim Abdi Karin Mohamud, Abdirizak Ali Aden, Abdi Hassan Mohamed, Abdi Mohamud Agey, Bishar Ahmed Abikar and Abdifatah Adan.

The Somali government has not yet released a statement on the latest claims from Al Shabab.

Al Shabab fighters have long been known to surrender to Somali government forces.
