Mogadishu (SD) – AU Special Representative and Head of AMISOM Amb. Francisco Madeira said in a statement today that the African Union forces in the country will be providing security at the election conference venue in Mogadishu.

Ambassador Francisco Madeira stated that they will guarantee security before and after the conference, and that the work of the Technical Committee on Security and other activities has been completed.

He said AMISOM was working with other partners to coordinate to hold the conference in a safe and secure environment.

Madeira’s statement comes after some conference participants said they would not attend due to insecurity.
