“The UN notes today’s pre-meeting for the planned summit, with partial FMS representation; urges further informal consultations in coming days to ensure full participation needed for this event to produce consensus on implementation of the 17 September electoral model.” said the UNSOM tweet.

The preliminary meeting held today in Mogadishu was supposed to be attended by all regional administration presidents, However, only the Heads of the Federal Government, Galmudug, Hir Shabelle, Southwest and the Governor of Banadir showed up.

The Puntland and Jubaland federal member states did not attend today’s pre-meeting sitting security concerns and lack of consultation.

Efforts are reportedly underway by members of the international community in Mogadishu to bring Somali leaders together to decide on the country’s electoral process.
