ADDIS ABABA (SD) – Ethiopian intelligence says it has arrested 34 suspected members of al-Shabab, a militant group fighting in Somalia.
The suspects were planning to carry out attacks in the capital Addis Ababa and other regions, according to the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA).
Security officials said the men were arrested in a joint operation by security forces in the Somali and Oromo regions.
The arrested members stashed mortars, ammunition and other weapons, in their homes and were also carrying documents and cash, according to Ethiopian security officials.
Al-Shabaab has not commented on claims by the Ethiopian Intelligence and Security Agency that it has arrested members of the group.
Ethiopian intelligence has previously foiled an al-Shabab attacks inside the country.
