ADDIS ABABA (SD) The governments of Somalia and Ethiopia are mired in a serious diplomatic dispute, arising from an MoU reached in Addis Ababa between Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and the outgoing President of Somaliland.
The Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the African Union is making concerted efforts to mediate and resolve the conflict between the two countries, both of which are members of the African Union and IGAD.
Former President of Nigeria Olusegun Obasanjo has been appointed by the African Union to facilitate dialogue between the governments of Somalia and Ethiopia and asked Obasanjo to lead the negotiations and calm the growing conflict.
Ethiopia has faced strong criticism for the agreement with the Somaliland administration, while Somalia receiving widespread international support and solidarity from various governments and global organizations.
