AU, Somalia agree to review Amisom Transition Plan

MOGADISHU (SD) – AMISOM operations in Somalia have been extended until March this year, according to a joint agreement between Somalia and the African Union.

It was also agreed that the main task of the operation would be in the fight against Al-Shabaab terrorists, with clear funding, to accelerate the process.

Technical committees from both sides will meet on January 10th, finalizing a 30-day plan and modalities for the operation, which will be presented to the Peace and Security Council on February 11th. of the African Union.

Part of the proposal was for Somalis to appoint teams working with the African Union, the United Nations, the European Union and the United Kingdom to find a framework for operations and funding beyond 2021.
