MOGADISHU (SD) The Banadir Regional Court has recently issued an arrest warrant for Ahmed Madobe, who was re-elected for the third time as the President of Jubaland on the 25th of this month.
A statement from the Banadir Regional Court called for Ahmed Madobe to be brought before the court. He is accused of offenses related to undermining the unity and territorial integrity of Somalia, which is legally considered “treason,” according to the court’s statement.
The charges against Ahmed Madobe include collaborating with foreign entities in a manner detrimental to the Somali state, actions that threaten the sovereignty of Somalia, and violations against the country’s constitution and political system.
The arrest warrant follows a directive from the Somali Cabinet, instructing the Attorney General to submit a case against Ahmed Madobe to the court. The Cabinet’s decision emphasized that both the presidential and parliamentary elections in Jubaland were in violation of the country’s laws.
Additionally, the Federal Government of Somalia has sent troops to Jubaland’s territories to prevent Ahmed Madobe from consolidating power again, amid concerns that tensions could escalate into an open conflict.
