Somaliland’s constitutional Court upholds results of the Presidential Election

HARGEISA (SD) – The Supreme Court of Somaliland upheld that the results released by the Election Commission for the presidential election held on November 13 are valid.

According to a statement from the court, read to the media by Chairman Aadan Xaaji Cali, the court has officially ratified the results of the presidential election.

“The court has confirmed that Mr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Cigaal won the presidency, and Mr. Mohamed Ali Abdi Mahamoud won the vice presidency. Both candidates were from the Waddani Party,” the court’s statement said.

The court further stated that no objections were received from any of the candidates in the election, thus validating the preliminary results issued by the Somaliland Election Commission.

The election, which was the most peaceful in Somaliland’s history, resulted in the defeat of the Kulmiye party, which had been in power for nearly 15 years. Both President Bihi and his party congratulated the Waddani party on their victory.
