MOGADISHU (SD) – The African Union Ambassador to Somalia, Abdullahi Warfa, spoke to the National Media and provided details about boats carrying more than 70 Somali migrants that capsized in Madagascar.
Ambassador Abdullahi Haji Warfaa reported that the boats, which were two in number, were carrying around 70 people. More than 28 Somalis died, and 48 were injured. The injured were rescued by local fishermen from Madagascar.
Ambassador Warfaa added that the embassy is planning to repatriate the survivors and will closely monitor the condition of those currently being treated by the Malagasy government.
The Ambassador extended condolences to the families of the deceased and mentioned that the embassy is making efforts to determine the origins and intended destinations of these individuals.
