Candidates place conditions on Farmajo’s request to meet

Mogadishu (SD) – A crucial meeting between members of the Union of Candidates and Presidents of Galmudug and Hirshabelle regional states took place last night in Mogadishu.

The two regional leaders presented a request from Farmajo to meet the members of the Union of Candidates, contrary to the purpose of the meeting, which was to report back if they were able to convince President Farmajo of the problems of the his term extension, as they then would clarify their position on the matter.

There was a heated debate at the meeting as Qoorqoor and Gudlawe defended Farmajo, saying that the candidates should open talks with the President to find a solution, after which they would make their position on the extension clear.

Some of the candidates who attended the meeting were reportedly outraged by the behavior of Qoorqoor and Ali Gudlawe and how they were misleading the candidates and could not come out and make their stand on the extension issue.

Abdirahman Abdishakur, one of the participants in last night’s meeting, reportedly left the meeting, accusing Qoorqoor and Ali Gudlawe of misleading and deceiving the candidates.

Sources close to the meeting say the Union of Candidates has rejected Farmajo’s request to meet with him, and some made it a condition first that President Farmajo first withdraw from the extension, and return to the Talks.
