Candidates’ Union Addresses Farmajo-Roble Conflict & Northern Committee Elections

Mogadishu (SD) – The Council of Opposition Candidates for the Presidency held a special meeting last night to discuss the political situation in the country, in particular the escalating dispute between the current outgoing President and his Prime Minister of Somalia.

The council expressed support for the Roble-led government, welcoming his move to oppose Farmajo’s decree.

He also underlined that the reason behind the escalating conflict was the ongoing talks on relations with Kenya.

Candidate Ridwan Hirsi Mohamed, who spoke at the meeting, said the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the situation and the renewed political crisis in Villa Somalia during the upcoming elections.

“The Council of Candidates has met to discuss the situation in the country, especially the dispute between the outgoing President and the Prime Minister. We will issue a full statement, but we support Roble’s decision, ”said Ridwan Hirsi, one of the candidates.

However, The Union of Somali Opposition Candidates said at a meeting last night that the government of Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble was mismanaging the dispute over the northern region’s parliamentary elections.

The rift between President Farmajo and Prime Minister Roble has raised new concerns about the impact of Somalia’s elections, which have now begun in some regional administrations.
