Somaliland receives shipment of donated Covid-19 vaccine

Hargeisa (SD) – The Somaliland Ministry of Health has today received a third consignment of 30,000 Covid-19 vaccines, donated by the French government through the COVAX International Fund.

“The Ministry of Health would like to thank everyone who took part in the vaccination, including the French government and the COVAX fund, we are also grateful to all international agencies, especially WHO and UNICEF,” the ministry said in a statement.

Senior officials from WHO and UNICEF, meanwhile, emphasized the importance of vaccination against the virus and thanked the ministry for its fight against the infection.

The donation will enable another 30,000 Somalilanders to be vaccinated, previously about 60,000 people were vaccinated, mostly government employees, teachers and health workers.

COVID-19 Infections have been on the rise in recent days in parts of Somaliland, according to the ministry of health.
