Candidates Union rejects Sheikh Sharif’s resignation

Mogadishu (SD) – Leader of the Union of Somalia’s Presidential Candidates Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed called on members of the Union of Opposition Candidates to elect a new leadership, as he could no longer lead the council.

According to credible sources, at a meeting in Mogadishu, three days ago, Sheikh Sharif informed the council members that he wishes to be an ordinary member of the council and would no longer lead them.

According to sources close to some members of the Union Council of Candidates, a heated debate ensued over Sheikh Sharif’s request to step down from the leadership of the Council.

Most members of the Union of Candidates refused to accept the resignation request from the former Somali President Sheikh Sharif, siting it could lead to the collapse of the Union of Candidates.

Recently, suspicions have been leaked by sources close to council members that Sharif Sheikh Ahmed have been linked with President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo’s group, undermining the principles of the Union of Candidates.

Sources say Sheikh Sharif now plans to go out on his own and launch his own election campaign without wasting much time on Farmajo’s opposition.

The Union of Candidates and Sheikh Sharif have not yet commented on the matter.
