Chairman Irro meets with Swedish Foreign Ministry, no immediate response on election funding

The chairman of the opposition Wadani party Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Irro), met with top officials of the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, which took place at the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Irro discussed the Swedish government’s support for Somaliland, including elections, security and democracy.

“We met today with the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in particular the Africa Department, to discuss elections and democracy, and to inform them that the elections will be held in May. They told us they had all of the election information, in particular we talked about the election budget, but they told us they would respond immediately.” said the Wadani chairman.

The Wadani chairman added “We have discussed security issues in general in Somaliland. We have also discussed the issue of women and minorities, and I have told them that the Somaliland national parties want to give women and minorities a chance.”

Somaliland’s elections have been marred and delayed by power-sharing and political debates which the national parties and the government failed to adequately address.
