Beijing (SD) – The Chinese government has once again openly opposed Taiwan’s diplomatic relations with the Somaliland government.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said Taiwan is not an independent country, which can establish direct diplomatic relations, adding that Beijing would never accept Taiwan’s relationship with Somaliland, as it claims to be part of mainland China.
“There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is a part of mainland China. The world recognizes and abides by international norms and has reached an agreement with the international community on the principle that there is only one China,” he said.
Lijian also underlined that Taiwan’s efforts to secede from China would end in failure.
“Every attempt by the Democratic Progressive Party of Taiwan to divide China will end in failure,” said Zhao Lijian.
Taiwan on Monday officially opened an office in Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland, and appointed a representative to the office as part of a cooperation agreement signed between the two sides in early 2020.
