Garowe (SD) – Puntland State of Somalia is celebrating the 22nd anniversary of the founding of the regional State on August 1, 1998, and is been marked today in Puntland.

Cities in Puntland will be commemorating the anniversary today, and will reflect on the history of Puntland’s founding and the achievements made since its creation.

Also tonight, the biggest commemoration event is scheduled for August 1st in Galkayo with the participation of President Said Abdullahi Deni.

Puntlanders around the world are seen celebrating the 22nd anniversary on social media.

Since its inception in Puntland, the region enjoyed a system of governance that has established relative peace and the rule of law.
