Geneva (SD) – Some African countries, including Somalia, are at the forefront of corruption cases involving the misappropriating of Covid-19 funds, according to WHO.
World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has equated the corruption of health workers’ equipment to murder.
“Any level or type of corruption is unacceptable. However, corruption related to the safety of medical personnel is really murder. Because, if health workers work without equipment, we endanger their lives and this also endangers the lives of the people they serve. So it is a crime and it is murder, ”said Dr. Ghebreyesus.
It is feared that more countries will be exposed for their corruption according to research and more information is emerging.
The World Health Organization says the number of cases so far identified as theft and misappropriation of aid money to vulnerable people has exceeded billions of dollars.
