Mogadishu (SD) – Turkish-trained Gorgor forces stationed at Damanyo camp in Mogadishu are said to be on high alert.
The Commander of the Somali National Army, General Mohamed Tahliil Bihi, inspected the Gorgor contingent in Damanyo camp and assessed the troop’s readiness, reportedly placing them on them on alert.
Gorgor military officials briefed the commander on the troops stationed at the camp, and officials said the troops were ready and fully equipped.
General Mohamed Tahliil Bihi, who spoke to the Gorgor forces stationed in Damanyo, instructed them to prepare for an unspecified national operation, adding to the political upheaval in the country.
The Turkish-trained Gorgor forces are one of the most powerful forces in Somalia, and has recently been used by the government to thwart protests planned by the opposition in Mogadishu.
The move comes at a time when there are suspicions that the country’s parliament and the president are seeking an extension.
