Death toll in Mogadishu blast hit 15

MOGADISHU (SD) – At least 15 Somali military soldiers were killed and over 30 others wounded in a suicide bombing at Somalia army camp on Monday morning.

The attack happened at at the General Dhagabadan military facility in the Wadajir district of Mogadishu.

Army Chief of Staff Brig. Gen. Odawa Yusuf Rageh who confirmed the attack said the attacker was waiting among new recruits who were queuing up outside the camp.

The injured people were taken to several hospital in Somali capital.

A military officer quoted by state media said that 10 people had died, but a witness at a Mogadishu hospital told the Reuters news agency that he had counted 15 bodies.

In a statement, al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack.

“A suicide bomber struck a Turkish military base in the capital, Mogadishu shortly after noon. The death toll from the blast is 40 soldiers and the number of wounded is 50, “said a statement aired by Radio Andalus.
