Hargeisa (SD) – Somaliland’s Supreme Court has accepted a lawsuit filed by two candidates from the Wadani Party in the Marodi-jeh region and a UCID candidate from Burao who allege votes were rigged in the May 31, 2021 elections.
Dr. Issa Kayd, Yusuf Said, are Wadani Party’s candidate for the House of Representatives in Marodi-jeh region, and Jamal Abdi, was UCID party’s candidate for House of Representatives in Togdher.
The candidates complained that the preliminary results of the May 31 parliamentary elections in Somaliland had been rigged.
Chief Justice Adan Hajji recently announced that the courts accepted a small number of cases relating to the recent elections are currently pending.
The Supreme Court is expected to evaluate all pending cases prior to approve the final results.
On May 31, 2021 Somaliland held a long awaited Local and parliamentary elections, the process was praised by international observers as largely free and fair.
