Mogadishu (SD) – Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia HE Mahdi Mohamed Guled, today attended the Northern Somalia Electoral Consultative Conference in Mogadishu with the aim of supporting government-appointed electoral commissions.
The conference was organized by various sections of the community from the northern regions in Mogadishu and was attended by members of both houses of the Somali parliament, ministers, Sultans, politicians, candidates, women and youth, all have jointly stated their position on the Somali elections and their support for the electoral commissions.
Mr. Mahdi Mohamed Guled, the Deputy Prime Minister, stressed that the country is going to a timely and peaceful election.
“We are ready for peaceful elections any dispute will delay the election. Does that mean you’re not ready for the election and want to be postponed? We will hold the election on time. If there are any concerns, we are ready to listen.” Said Deputy PM Mahdi Guled.
The speaker of the upper house Abdi Hashi with few MP’s from the North who aligned themselves with the opposition were missing.
The meeting was attended by members of the Somali cabinet including the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Information, the Minister of State for Defense and members of both houses of parliament representing the northern regions.
