Hargeisa (SD) – The President of Somaliland Muse Bihi Abdi, who have been on a working visit to Djibouti in recent days returned home today, after a ground trip, he was warmly welcomed in the border town of Lawyado.
Bihi and his delegation were accompanied by a delegation led by Djibouti’s Minister of Water, Fisheries and Livestock Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Awale (Mohamed Somali) and Commanders of the Presidency and Police.
On the Somaliland side, President Bihi was welcomed by the regional and district administrations of the Salel region, members of the cabinet, commanders of the various armed forces and a large crowd.
The two sides officially announced the reopening of the border between the two countries, which had been closed for six years.
“I see the people of Zeila, Tokoshi and Lawyado coming here to welcome and cheer for President Muse Bihi Abdi, on behalf of the Republic of Djibouti and the President Ismail Omar Guelleh and the people, we thank you for your welcome, the two peoples are two brotherly peoples who have lived together forever, and the border will be opened again and they will be brothers who help each other.” said Minister Mohamed Somalia.
The President of Somaliland Muse Bihi Abdi, also addressed the gathering and said that he had the opportunity to see the progress that Djibouti has made by visiting some regions and different areas in Djibouti.
“We have been in Djibouti for five days and we have been shown all over the country how it has developed, how big it is, we have seen the size of the country and the people living there, from east to west and they showed us brotherhood.” Said Bihi.
The president declared the road between Djibouti and Somaliland now been reopened, Bihi spent the night in Seyla with his delegation.
