Djibouti: Talks between Somalia and Somaliland broke down over bilateral relations

Djibouti (SD) – Reports from Djibouti indicate that the meeting of technical committees between the Federal Government of Somalia and Somaliland have broken down.

Reports say that the main challenge came as Somaliland refused to accept not to politicize bilateral relations between Mogadishu and Hargeisa, as it relates to Politics, art, Business, culture and sports.

That item would stop Somaliland authorities in targeting its citizens from traveling to and from Mogadishu for the specified reasons.

Somaliland governments have been tossing opponents in jail with impunity for the sole allegation of traveling to Mogadishu.

Facilitators at the conference including the Djiboutian government are trying to bring the committees to agree on a compromise, its not clear what that compromise looks like.

Neither Somalia nor Somaliland governments have officially addressed the reported break down or what it is they are objecting to.
