Jigjiga (SD) – Former Somali Prime Minister and President of Khatumo state Ali Khalif Galaydh has died in Jigjiga, the capital of Ethiopia’s Somali regional state , the politicians family has confirmed.
Dr Galaydh has been ill in Jigjiga for the past two days, dying of a sudden unidentified illness.
Ali Khalif Galaydh previously served as the country’s first post-collapse prime minister, when he was appointed by TFG President Abdikasim Salad Hassan in 2000. He served from October 8, 2000 to October 28, 2001.
Galaydh was also the leader of the Khatumo administration, particularly the faction that reconciled with the Somaliland government of Ahmed Silanyo whom they deeply opposed the administration’s ideology.
He has long campaigned in Somaliland, calling for a united Somaliland and the reopening of the constitution as to address marginalized communities power sharing issues.
