Hargeisa (SD) – Close to one million people have been affected by severe drought in Somaliland regions, the government has announced on Thursday.
Speaking ro the media, Somaliland deputy president, Abdirahman Seyli’i said that severe drought has hit parts of Somaliland particularly six regions.
“We, the Drought Relief Committee, are here today to announce that the drought is ravaging our country after several parts of the country failed to get rains” Sayli’i said.
According to Seyli’i who is leading the drought response committee, the drought had effected more than 810,000 people living in those region.
“There is a drought situation in the country that has affected all regions of the country, such as Sool, Sanaag, Togdheer, Sahil, Howd Maroodijeh and the coast of Awdal region,”said Saylici.
The Vice President said that the Somaliland Disaster Management Agency has prepared food aid for the drought affected people.
He also confirmed that his government is preparing $3 million to address the drought.
