GAROWE (SD) – The President of Puntland State of Somalia, Said Abdullahi Deni, met last night at the State House with the Puntland Transitional Electoral Commission (TPEC).

The two sides discussed the formation of local councils in Qardho, Ufeyn and Eyl districts as well as the acceleration of elections in other districts of Puntland.

The meeting was attended by the new Chairman of the TPEC, Mr. Abdirizak Ahmed Said, Deputy Chairman Mr. Ali Jama Farah, other members of the Commission and the Minister of Interior, Federalism and Democracy Mr. Mohamed Abdirahman Dhabancad.

The TPEC chairman and deputy chairman recently resigned after the government failed to work with them in implementing the results of the last three district elections and to speed up the electoral process.

The meeting last night followed Yesterday’s Cabinet meeting focused on accelerating the democratization of Puntland, with Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni instructing all government agencies to work with the Electoral Commission to complete the democratization of Puntland in all districts of Puntland.
