CAIRO (SD) -The Egyptian government has reiterated its support for the Federal Government of Somalia, strongly opposing the agreement previously reached between the Somaliland administration and the Ethiopian government in Addis Ababa.
In a joint press conference held in Cairo with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty declared that Egypt views the agreement between Ethiopia and the Somaliland regional administration as unlawful.
Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Macallin Fiqi, expressed gratitude to Egypt for its clear stance on protecting Somalia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Egypt is among the countries firmly opposing Ethiopia’s ambitions concerning Somalia’s waters. The Egyptian government has labeled the agreement made between Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Somaliland President Muse Bihi as illegal and a violation of Somalia’s unity.
