Elders from Gedo reject Garbaharey hosting elections

KISMAYO (SD) – The committee assessing the situation in Garbaharey as a second Jubaland election city, appointed by PM Roble, met with Jubaland traditional elders representing some of the 16 constituencies in Garbaharey.

The meeting was also attended by the Speaker of the Jubaland Parliament, Abdi Mohamed Abdirahman and other officials.

Traditional elders and officials from Gedo told the assessment committee that it is not possible to hold elections at this time in the town of Garbaharey, currently under the control of an independent administration.

The elders advised the committee that the election of the 16 seats scheduled to take place in Garbaharey be transferred to another district under Jubbaland administration.

The Jubaland administration is opposed to holding parliamentary elections in Garbaharey town which is under President Farmajo’s rule
