Election violence erupts in Beledweyne

BELEDWEYNE (SD) -Reports from Beledweyne in Hiran region, state that there have been several casualties, in a heavy fighting between the Hirshabelle security forces.

According to witnesses, the hostile fighting was between the security armed guards of the Hirshabelle leaders in Lamagalaay camp, and the bodyguards of the candidates of the seats for the Federal Parliament election in Beledweyne.

The militias were provoked, because of parliamentary seats which were looted in Beledweyne, which led the militias to mobilize and clash on the outskirts of Lamagalaay camp.

According to the local reports, one civilian and one security guard were killed, and three other soldiers were critically wounded.

The fighting erupted after HirShabelle President Ali Gudlawe and his deputy Yusuf Dabaged are at loggerheads over the process of electing members of parliament in Beledweyne.

HirShabelle President Ali Gudlawe reportedly wants the election to be held openly to avoid a crisis in Beledweyne while Yusuf Dabaged wants members of Villa Somalia to be arrested.

The parliamentary elections in Beledweyne are causing tensions and uprisings, and the elections in the country are scheduled to conclude on March 08,2022.
