ANKARA (SD)-President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Somalia’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Abdirizak Omar Mohamed, Turkey’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, and the Chairman of the Somali Petroleum Authority attended a farewell ceremony for the seismic survey ship, Oruç Reis, which is headed to Somalia.
The Oruç Reis set sail today from the Port of Filyos in Zonguldak and is expected to reach waters near Somalia by the end of October. The journey is anticipated to take approximately 19 days.
Upon arrival in Somalia, the Oruç Reis will conduct 3D seismic surveys across three specific areas, covering 15,000 square kilometers. The operation is expected to last around seven months. During this period, the ship will gather data on oil and natural gas reserves. The collected data will be sent to Ankara for analysis, which will guide future drilling operations.
This mission marks an expansion of Turkey’s exploration maps and opens a new chapter in its relationship with its close ally, Somalia, as they jointly explore natural gas and oil reserves.
