ADDIS ABABA (SD)-The Ethiopian government has stated that Al-Shabaab still poses a significant threat to the security and stability of their country and the Horn of Africa as a whole, emphasizing that their security forces remain on high alert to prevent Al-Shabaab activities.
The spokesperson for the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nebiyu Tedla, said that Ethiopian forces stationed at the borders and those involved in the ATMIS operation are closely monitoring the movements of Al-Shabaab militants.
Nebiyu Tedla praised the Ethiopian forces inside Somalia for reducing the threat posed by Al-Shabaab but warned that the group remains a danger to their national security.
He asserted that his government is committed to establishing security cooperation with neighboring countries to mitigate the threat Al-Shabaab poses to the Horn of Africa’s security.
The spokesperson’s remarks come from Ethiopia’s deployment of a large number of troops to the borders and some central regions of the country, which they explained as part of ensuring the security of their forces, which are soon to withdraw from Somalia.
