Jigjiga January 29, 2023 (SD) – The Ethiopian Media Authority has announced that all Somali media outlets operating in the Somali region without a license from the authority have been suspended.

The suspension was communicated by the Federal Government of Ethiopia through the Somali Regional State Information Office and applies to both domestic and foreign-based Somali media outlets.

This comes as a result of the lack of proper licensing by media outlets. The suspension follows recent reports of strained relations between independent journalists and the Somali Ethiopian Regional State government.

The journalists have also been covering recent conflicts between the Somali, Oromo, and Anfar communities.
