Ethiopia denies smuggling arms into Somalia

ADDIS ABABA (SD)-The Federal Government of Ethiopia has issued a press release distancing itself from accusations made by the Federal Government of Somalia regarding the weapons recently looted in the town of Abudwak.

The press release from the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Ethiopia is closely monitoring the provocative statements recently made by the Somali government.

Ethiopia claimed that all accusations from the Federal Government of Somalia are baseless and that Ethiopia has been tirelessly working for over thirty years to support the stability and nation-building efforts of Somalia.

This statement from the Ethiopian government comes at a time when relations between Somalia and Ethiopia have significantly deteriorated since January 2024, following an agreement in Addis Ababa between Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi.

The agreement involved Ethiopia gaining access to parts of Somalia’s water and land in exchange for Ethiopia recognizing Somaliland as an independent state.
