Former President Sharif: there is not a single battalion in the national army capable of fighting

MOGADISHU (SD) -Former President of Somalia Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, speaking to the media today in Mogadishu, criticized the management of the Somali National Army, which has faced setbacks in operations against Al-Shabaab.

Sheikh Sharif stated that there is not a single battalion in the national army capable of fighting, indicating that there are significant issues with the strategy used to combat Al-Shabaab.

Sheekh Shariif mentioned that they cannot remain silent about the failures of the army and the mistakes they are witnessing, emphasizing that as politicians, they oppose the way Al-Shabaab is being fought.

Sheikh Sharif’s remarks come at a time when operations against Al-Shabaab in areas and districts of Galmudug and Hirshabelle have stalled, and Al-Shabaab has retaken some of the areas previously captured by the national army.
