Farmajo: Roble failed to implement credible elections

Mogadishu (SD) – Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo accused Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble that he failed to fulfill his obligations of holding timely elections.

The prime minister failed to fulfill his duties to lead and implement the September 17, 2020 agreement, and the October 1st 2020 procedures” said an statement from President Farmajo.

The president called for an emergency meeting by the regional leaders of the country and the Benadir region to discuss election.

“The President called for a consultative conference, attended by the Federal Government, Regional States and Benadir Region to appoint a capable leadership that could implement a complete election.” said The President.

Adding “The President calls for listening to the advice and recommendations of intellectuals, politicians, and civil society with election related concerns in achieving a peaceful and equal electoral environment.”

The president’s statement followed the federal election committee sacking their chairman, torpedoing the electoral process.

There were rumors in the last few days that indicates President Farmajo is planning to fire PM Roble.

The Prime Minister has not yet responded to the President’s allegations regarding the flawed electoral process.
