Federal Electoral Commission announces re-election of four suspended seats

MOGADISHU (SD) – Somalia’s Federal Electoral Commission (FIET) has decided to re-run the election of the previously suspended four seats.

A statement from the Electoral Commission said the election process for the four seats were flawed.

Seats HOP #154, HOP # 103, HOP #204 and HOP #086, were suspended by FEIT from November 29 last year to March 13, 2022.

The Electoral Commission said that in accordance with the 2016 election process, the commission will announce when and where the elections will be held.

The seats to be re-elected include that of former NISA Commander Fahad Yassin, while the other 3 seats were elected in Baidoa.

The decision by the Federal Electoral Commission (FEIT) comes at a time when the certification of members of both houses of the Federal Parliament of Somalia is well underway, and MP’s are set to be sworn in on the 14th of this month.
