Federal Parliament endorses the country’s admission to the East African Community

MUQDISHU (SD) -Somalia’s Federal Parliament today endorsed the country’s admission to the East African Community EAC.

The Parliament’s approval of the agreement paves the way for the completion of Somalia’s membership process in the organization, as the EAC has provided six months to finalize the agreement.

The Council of Ministers of the East African Community has been tasked with ensuring that upon submission of the agreement today, they will oversee the implementation and formal integration of Somalia into the EAC block.

On November 24, 2023, the EAC Heads of State Summit, held in Arusha, approved Somalia’s application to join the East African Community.

Somalia becomes the 8th member of the East African Community, which also includes Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
