Feds says Puntland rejected assistance with fight against ISIS

MOGADISHU (SD) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia has described the ongoing conflict between Puntland’s defense forces and terrorist groups in the Al-Miskad mountains of the Bari region as a “campaign.” He stated that the Somali National Army (SNA) was prepared to provide weapons, medical supplies, and other support, but Puntland rejected the offer.

“The ongoing campaign against Daesh and the conflict has seen the SNA extend its hand every time, whether to treat the wounded or provide ammunition, but Said Deni [President of Puntland] has refused. The SNA is ready to participate in the fight, but the door is closed,” said Minister Fiqi.

Minister Fiqi’s remarks come as Puntland’s President, Said Deni, previously stated that Puntland is self-sufficient in its fight against Daesh and does not require external support.

Other officials from Puntland have also criticized the Federal Government for delaying support for Puntland’s battle against Daesh in the Al-Miskad mountains of the Bari region.
