Somalia’s FEIT elects new chairperson

MOGADISHU (SD) – Members of Federal Elections Implementation Team (FEIT) have today selected a new chairperson following an election which took place in Afisyoni in Mogadishu.

According to the poll, Muse Guelleh Yusuf and Abdiaziz Abdiaziz Aden had contested for the post of chairman of the Federal Electoral Commission.

Yussuf received 14 votes, while Abdirahman Abdiaziz received 11 votes.

The development comes three week after Mohamed Hassan Irro was dismissed as the Chairman of the Federal Electoral Implementation Team following a near-unanimous vote by members of the 18-person committee.

Irro was removed as the leader of Somalia’s electoral commission by a vote of 15-3.  Irro’s Deputy, Mowlid Matan, chaired the vote.

Mowlid Matan said that the move to dismiss Irro came after a lengthy investigation into his conduct as Chairman.
