Kenya kills four al-Shabaab fighters in Mandera

MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Kenyan government has claimed to have destroyed alleged al-Shabaab training bases following security operations in Mandera county.

The forces have reportedly engaged al-Shabāab fighters in Takaba, Mandera County, killing three fighters and recovering several guns.

“The operations are ongoing in the region.

The team of special forces operating in the area said they had followed leads to where the gang was hiding,” North Eastern Police boss Rono Bunei said.

According to the statement, they said they destroyed two camps, killing the four suspects in the process.

Security officials said January is usually the time many of the locally militarised terrorists and those sent from Somalia try to send a message.

Mandera county areas had been under al-Shabaab attacks since 2011 when Kenya deployed its troops to Somalia to fight against al-Shabaab.

The group’s fighters target non-locals and civil servants in the county, forcing hundreds of non-local doctors, teachers and government workers to flee the region.
