Garowe (SD) – Puntland today announced the results of the 2019/2020 school year examinations, and for the first time, a girl came in first.
Maryan Abdikarin Ahmed was first on the top ten students at the end of June.
It is also noteworthy that 6 of the top ten students tested in the regional state are girls, and this is the first time that many girls appear on the top of that test.
Puntland Minister of Education Abdullahi Mohamed Hassan said 4,942 students, including 3,020 boys and 1,922 girls, took this year’s exam, and 4,832 passed, while 59 failed.
Puntland state Minister of Education Abdullahi Ahmed Hassan praised the students who achieved high marks in the exam.
Graduates could face challenges in obtaining federal degrees, as the Somali Ministry of Education has said Puntland students will not receive any degrees.
