Fighting erupts at a government check point in Mogadishu

Mogadishu (SD) – Reports from Warta Nabada district in Mogadishu confirm that a heavy fighting broke out between government troops and unknown militia fighters today.

The source added that the clashes started when gunmen in a truck tried to force their way through a Somali military check point at checkpoint near Ex-Arwo Idko.

Heavy gunfire was reported between the two sides, as well as explosions using grenades by the attackers.

Various reports have emerged as to who carried out the attack, with some saying they were a group escorting qat into the country illegally, while other reports indicate they were members of al-Shabab.

The situation is now calm, the government security forces are at the site. The casualties of the attack are still unknown.
