First Somali woman becomes MP in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa (SD) – Saharla Abdullahi Bahdoon became the first Somali Ethiopian to be elected as a member of parliament to represent Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia.

She won a seat in Addis Ababa’s Yeka district, where she won last month’s federal election by a landslide.

Saharla Abdullahi, Minister of State for Health in the Federal Government of Ethiopia, she ran on behalf of the ruling EPP, which won 410 of the 436 seats up for grabs.

Saharla Abdullahi was born in Addis Ababa and her father was a member of parliament for the EPDRF.

She earned a master’s degree in Public Health while working in the public and private health sectors.

She was the co-ordinator and implementer of a project to increase the income of women, a project implemented by a local organization.

She has been successful in raising funds for the organization and ensuring that women have access to programs to develop their skills as well as socially and competently.
