Former convicted Somali Minneapolis Police officer released

MINNEAPOLIS (SD) – A former Somali-American Minneapolis police officer arrested for shooting an unarmed woman in 2017 has been released.

Mohamed Nur 36 has now been released from prison after serving three years.

He was convicted of first-degree murder in 2019 for the murder of Justine Ruszczyk Damond and was sentenced to 12 and a half years in prison.

But an appeal by his lawyers to the Minnesota Supreme Court lowered his sentence to five years and several months.

According to the Department of Correction’s website, Noor will be on supervised release until January 24, 2024.
