Mogadishu (SD) – Former Somali Federal Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheyre has tonight officially announced his candidacy for the presidency of Somalia, at a time when his replacement is yet to be announced.
Former PM Hassan Ali Kheyre posted his announcement for the top job on his Twitter account tonight .
“Bismillah, brothers and sisters, there is no doubt that our government has been moving forward for the past two decades, no matter how small. During the 5th term of this process, I served the people of Somalia as their Prime Minister. In that capacity, we have achieved something, thank God we have learned from it, ”said Hassan Ali Kheyre in a statement.
Kheyre’s statement added, “Now that we are in the process of moving on to a new term in office of the Somali federal government, after a long consultation I would like to announce my candidacy for the presidency of the FSG.”
The former PM was ousted in a controversial parliamentary session just 50 days ago, his positions is still vacant.
The former PM dismissal was attributed to his disagreement with Villa Somalia’s term extension and the PM’s position of the country going to polls at the end of the current government’s term.
During Kheyre’s tenure, especially prior to his dismissal, supporters of the president and experts speculated and accused him of being disloyal and was a presidential candidate seeking to oust the current president.
Villa Somalia is yet to react to the former PM’s candidacy.
