Mogadishu (SD) – Fosiya Yusuf H. Adan, an outgoing member of parliament, announced today that she is running for the presidency of Somalia today.
Fosiya, who hails from the northern regions, has previously served as deputy prime minister and foreign minister, making her the first woman to be appointed to that post.
If Fosiya meets the requirements to run for President, she will be the second woman to run for President of Somalia. In the 2004 Somali presidential election, Asha Ahmed Abdalla became the first woman to run for president.
Somalia is set to hold its long delayed parliamentary and presidential elections this year.
