Guriel (SD) – A journalist working in Somalia’s central regions has been released from Guriel police station tonight, where he has been detained for 18 nights.
Security forces in Guriel forced Said Osman Gabeyre to accompany them to a police station, and then told him he was under arrest.
The relatives of the journalist, friends and other journalists said he have been missing for some time, earlier this week, they learned that he was being held at Guriel Police Station.
Reporters in the Central Region discovered that the journalist had been locked up for sharing articles on his Facebook page.
Numerous efforts led to the journalist’s release, although there were strict conditions for his release.
Somalia has been described as one of the most dangerous countries in the world for journalists to work in, with constant killings, torture, arrests and threats.
